The fifth woman to become co-director of Banco de la República, Colombia’s central bank, Acosta’s appointment calmed market turbulence when the Council of State ordered the president to change Alberto Carrasquilla for a woman to comply with gender quotas mandated by law. There were fears because of the leftist current Petro represents, but Acosta conveyed board independence to the markets. She is an economist and holdsh a master’s degree in Development Economics and a degree in Economic Policy and Regulation from the University of Paris I-Sorbonne. She has been a teacher, researcher, worked in the Department of Economic Studies at the central bank and was an advisor to the Finance Ministry’s Superior Council of Fiscal Policy.
