If El Salvador wants to become a ‘bitcoin’ economy, its best possible ally is Rafael Barraza, the CEO of Banco Agrícola who wants to offer banking services to as much as 70% of Salvadorians. The company has taken steps in the right direction with an aggressive digital transformation campaign, loans to SMEs and expanding the loan portfolio to women. As a result, in 2020 the bank dominated the market with almost a third of all depositors’ money and loans in the country. That was the basis for Euromoney recognizing Banco Agrícola as the best bank in El Salvador in 2020.
