Born in Havana, she took her first acting steps in Cuba before moving to Spain at the age of 18 after obtaining citizenship of the European country. She rose to fame in Spain thanks to her participation in the late 2000s series El Internado, but achieved global recognition years later when she moved to Hollywood. After landing supporting roles in major productions, she went on to starring roles in films such as Blade Runner 2049 and Knives Out, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. In 2022 she played Marilyn Monroe in the film Blonde, a Netflix production.
