Chef José Andrés was born in Spain and moved to the US when he was 21 and founded World Central Kitchen in 2010, a company whose mission is to cook during a crisis. It all started when he settled in Washington, DC, and began volunteering at DC Central Kitchen, where he began to think about philanthropy. He founded World Central Kitchen after a devastating earthquake in Haiti. The company doesn’t just deliver ingredients or provide free food in disaster zones. They source and hire locally to drive economic recovery through food.
