He assumed this year the presidency of the board of directors of Banco del Bajío, the seventh largest bank in Mexico, as part of a generational change after almost 30 years of leadership by his father, Salvador Oñate Ascencio. An accountant, he is general manager of the gas division of Grupo SONI and chairman of the boards of Grupo AUTOSSONI, Mega Transportadora de Gasolina, Transportes Especializados del Bajío, Sistemas Premium, GSA Leasing and Servicio Naftoni.
