Sergio Leite is chairman of the board of directors of Usiminas and has been an employee of the company for more than 40 years. He is also chairman of the board of directors of the Brazilian Association of Metallurgy and Materials (ABM). He has held more than a dozen executive positions at the steelmaker and is best known for his work in the sales area. In the midst of a fierce corporate dispute between the company’s controllers - Japan’s Nippon and Italy’s Ternium - Leite emerged as CEO of Usiminas in 2016 with the support of the steelmaker’s executives, a position he held until May 2022. Last year, the company posted a net profit of 2.1 billion reais (US$424 million), the second highest in 14 years. In the same period, net income was 32.5 billion reais (US$6,563 million), the second highest in its history.
