Sergio Affronti has been CEO of the state-owned energy company YPF since 2020. The company, which is publicly traded in the United States, reported a loss of more than US$1 billion in 2020, a year marked by a sharp decline in demand for fuels globally. Despite that fall, Affronti confirmed an investment plan for US$2.1 billion, which will be used to prop up oil and gas production, both conventional and unconventional, during 2021.
