Heike Paulmann was officially appointed last July to the presidency of Cencosud, one of the main companies in Latin America’s retail market. The challenge for the daughter of Horst, the billionaire and founder of the company, entails keeping afloat an operation that has around 118,000 employees and a presence in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Peru. Despite the pandemic, the company’s revenue, excluding the IAS29 mechanism applied to hyperinflationary economies, increased by 5.9% in 2020 compared to the previous year. It is estimated that company, which holds a significant portion of the market share, will have reached a revenue close to US$13.5 million and an Adjusted EBITDA margin of 9.4% in 2021.
