He is the sixth richest man in Mexico with a fortune of US$24.2 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, thanks to his business in the exploitation of minerals, mainly copper, in addition to his railroad division that make up the Grupo México conglomerate. Today the company is bidding to buy Banamex’s consumer banking business, still owned by the financial giant Citi in Mexico. Mexico’s president supports the operation remaining in the hands of Mexican investors, which raises the chances of Larrea’s bid.
