Sergio Méndez joined BlackRock in October 2020 as CEO of the company in Mexico, taking over from Samantha Ricciardi. He previously headed Afore XXI Banorte, the largest pension fund in the country, with more than US$35 billion in assets under management. He was also CEO of Santander Asset Management, where he managed 69 mutual funds. Méndez holds a degree in economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).
