An economist at French bank BNP Paribas, Laiz Carvalho was one of the first black women to reach the position of chief economist of a financial institution in the country when she led Brasilprev, the country’s largest insurance and pension company, between 2020 and 2021. She co-founded Black Swan, a group of black women who promote the connection and promotion of their peers in the financial market, with Renata Cabral in 2021. Previously, she was an economist at Santander and an asset analyst at BTG Pactual.
