After having served as executive vice president in 2015, Felipe Bayón rose to the presidency of the largest oil and gas conglomerate in Colombia and one of the four largest in Latin America, Ecopetrol, in 2017. Bayón, a mechanical engineer with more than 29 years of experience in the oil industry, had to face one of the worst crises in the sector in 2020 due to the fall in international oil prices and the pandemic. Having a plan B for the crisis and activating it immediately helped him rearrange the strategy and achieve the unthinkable last year: profitability.
