Pierpaolo Barbieri is CEO and founder of the financial services app Ualá. Created in 2017 with the aim of improving financial inclusion in Latin America, it aims to offer a branchless and lower-cost experience compared to traditional banking. With more than 2.7 million prepaid Mastercard cards issued in Argentina, he announced last May a new investment of 5.7 billion pesos to double his workforce to 1,500 positions. In the midst of the pandemic, at the end of 2020 it inaugurated its operations in Mexico, its second market, where it already has more than 100,000 cards issued.
