In Mexico, he chairs the energy giant Shell, which is involved in the exploration of 10 blocks in the Gulf of Mexico. He also has a stake in a marine contract with the Asian company CNOOC. A graduate economist from ITAM, he is currently facing challenges in deep water off the Mexican coast, such as permit delays, license expirations, availability of technology and skilled labor, which could affect the company’s earnings, cash flow and financial situation. It also faces a legal dispute with Gazprom against IEnova, for a gas storage contract. In July 2021, he became the new Chairman of the Executive Board of Global Companies, with which he intends to continue building a productive, respectful and positive relationship with the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
