Claudia Sheinbaum became the first woman to become the head of the Mexico City government by popular vote. She defines herself as an authentic left-wing politician. She has a master’s degree and a PhD in Energy Engineering from UNAM and was a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which in 2007 won the Nobel Peace Prize. That same year she joined Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s cabinet when he governed Mexico City. She was delegate chief in the mayor’s office of Tlalpan from October 2015 to December 2017, and when she concluded, she was in charge of coordinating the government and policy core of AMLO’s 2018-2024 Nation Project. She is currently one of the president’s favorites to succeed him in the 2024 elections.
