  • Sector: Pharma
  • Company: AstraZeneca
  • Country: México

She leads the Mexican operations of the biopharmaceutical company, which partnered with the University of Oxford, developed one of the vaccines against the Covid-19 virus approved by the World Health Organization. Under the local leadership of Varela, AstraZeneca and the Carlos Slim Foundation articulated an agreement to produce this vaccine between Argentina and Mexico and distribute it to the rest of Latin America, except Brazil. The vaccine stands out for its low cost and ease of logistics; however, it faces resistance in some countries outside the region due to adverse effects.
