Alejandro Baillères Gual took over the reins of the empire built by his father, Alberto Baillères, in Grupo Bal in 2021. The conglomerate includes the mining giant Peñoles, the insurance company GNP and the retail chain El Palacio de Hierro. After his father’s death in February 2022, he became the main beneficiary of his fortune. Valmex, the financial arm of Grupo Bal, is among the groups bidding to buy Banamex, the consumer banking unit to be sold by Citi in Mexico.
