He is chairman of the board of Organización Cultiba, a conglomerate of companies with interests in the sugar business and a bottler of PepsiCo branded products in Mexico. He was a key player in representing the interests of the Mexican private sector in the negotiation of the free trade agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada (USMCA). The company plans to spin off its sugar business, Grupo Azucarero Mexicano, a move that will place it solely as a beverage company. The move, according to Cultiba, will allow greater control of risk management, due to the high social and political impact of the sugar business.
