The Panama Canal offers a real-time pulse of international trade activity. For this reason, Ricaurte Vásquez must see with pleasure what has happened there in recent months with an increase in the traffic of cargo ships. According to the Panama Canal Administration, this fiscal year some 13,000 ships would transit, compared to 12,245 in the previous period. Likewise, there has been an increase in the reservation of cruise ships. Challenges persist, as Fitch indicates in its recent confirmation of the Authority´s investment grade. And as economic activity improves, Vásquez’s work will be to give an efficient transit to goods, people and products through the waterway.
