Marcos Galperín is the founder of MercadoLibre, the Argentine unicorn valued at more than US$70 billion. In 2020 Galperín made the decision to abandon the role of CEO and president of the local operation, maintaining his position at the head of the operations in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Uruguay. By the end of 2020, Mercado Libre employed over 15.500 people across the region, and thousands of openings have been announced this year. Already expanded to the logistics sector with MercadoEnvíos and to the financial sector with MercadoPago and MercadoCrédito, Galperín is now analyzing expanding into the insurance business, something for which he awaits government approval. During the pandemic, MercadoLibre opened an exclusive section for the sale of properties in Bitcoin. The company also added approximately US$8 million in Bitcoin to its balance sheet in the first quarter of 2021.
