Abilio Diniz is one of Brazil’s best-known business leaders, with a fortune estimated at US$2.6 billion, according to Forbes magazine, mainly from the supermarket business. In 1959 he opened the first Pão De Açúcar supermarket, initially founded as Doceria Pão de Açúcar, created by Abílio’s father. With a degree in business administration, he currently heads Península Participações, a family office with assets of R$12 billion, including Carrefour shares, real estate and the funds managed by O3, an asset founded in 2021. He is also vice chairman of the board of directors of Carrefour Brazil, which made the largest acquisition in its domestic market in the last 20 years when it bought the Cora and Match brands in France from the Louis Delhaize group for 1.05 billion euros (US$1.2 billion).
