He is managing director of Citi Latin America and is a member of Citi’s executive management team. He joined Banamex in 1989. Prior to his current position, he served as CEO of Citibanamex from 2014 to 2019. He was also general manager of consumer banking at Citibanamex from 2012 to 2014 and in 2006 was appointed president of retail banking in Mexico. For the banker, Latin America has a unique opportunity to take advantage of the green transition. In February 2023, Torres Cantú accompanied Citi CEO Jane Fraser to a meeting with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to discuss the sale of Banamex.
