He has been general manager of Chile’s Sociedad Minera y Química (SMQ) since January 2019, although he has been working at this non-metallic mining company for more than three decades.

His role has become more relevant due to the negotiations with the state-owned copper company Codelco for the renewal of contracts to explore and exploit lithium in the northern region of Atacama, within the framework of the national lithium policy announced by the Chilean government during this 2023.

It has also witnessed an exponential rise in SQM’s revenues over the last few years. The company reported profits of US$3,906 million in 2022, which was 6.6 times more than what it reported in 2021. Ramos is an industrial engineer, graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 1989.
