The global investing firm Capria Ventures and Mexico-based venture capital company Cometa announced a partnership to invest in Spanish-speaking countries with Cometa’s third fund. It has a target size of $100 million to be closed this year. It is Capria’s seventh fund manager partner from Latin America out of its global network of 14 investing partners.

Capria has already invested in LatAm’s Agrofy, Aprende Institute, Urbvan and Kueski. Cometa invests in Latin America, Spain, and the US Hispanic market, and has already allocated resources to Bitso, Cabify, and Kueski.

The moment is key to invest in tech in the region. According to LAVCA (the Association for Private Capital Investment in Latin America), digitalization was the dominant theme in 2021, pushing private capital investment to a new record of $29.4 billion. Last year, as per LAVCA’s data, only venture capital investment reached a record of $15.7 billion, more than what Latin America startups raised in the previous decade.

The association also said that VC as a share of overall private capital investment in the region jumped from 25% in 2020 to 54% in 2021.
