The US dollar closed lower against the Brazilian real on Tuesday, August 22, at 05:58 pm (Brasilia time). The American currency ended trading at R$ 4,94, depreciating by 0,84% throughout the day.

The dollar reached a high of R$ 4,97 and a low of R$ 4,93 this Tuesday.

This year, the real has appreciated by 6,60% against the US dollar. The highest exchange rate was registered on January 3, when the dollar reached R$ 5,46. The lowest was R$ 4,73 on July 31. The average exchange rate during this period was R$ 5,02.

The real’s average performance this year has been stronger than that of currencies in emerging markets. The currency with the best performance this year has been the Colombian peso, which has posted a 15,11% uptick against the greenback. On the other hand, the worst performing currency has been the Argentine peso, which has declined 97,58% against the dollar.
